Autodesk Industry Collections, what do they mean to structural engineers, detailers, and fabricators?

Autodesk Industry Collections for AEC will allow structural professionals to extend services to clients.

A few weeks ago we discussed some of the trends we see transforming how structural engineering and fabrication professionals design and deliver projects. We know many of you are already seeing some of these trends change how you connect with project teams. To help you prepare for this transformation, a few weeks ago Autodesk launched Autodesk Industry Collections. We did this so that we can give our customers a wider selection of the most essential Autodesk software in a relatively simple way. The collections will empower you with new technologies to better collaborate with your project team members. It will also enable easier employee training and help your company explore the delivery of new types of services. Based on a term license, the collections allow you to easily scale your software up and down during the course of a project and include contingent employees in software planning.

So what tools in the Autodesk Industry Collections for AEC help me as a structural engineer, detailer, or fabricator?

Great question! We know that sometimes a lot of choice can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’ve highlighted the most essential products in the collection for structural professionals.

  • Revit – Provides BIM-centric modeling and design of any structural system for building and infrastructure projects. Revit helps structural engineering firms deliver better coordinated designs and documentation by working within a common multi-discipline BIM environment. Being highly interoperable, Revit also integrates with detailing solutions like Advance Steel to help deliver more accurate designs to the fabrication team.
  • Structural Analysis – Provides structural analysis capabilities within Revit such as linear static and “load take down” gravity analysis early in the conceptual design phase. The Revit model can then be shared with other preferred structural analysis solutions or Robot Structural Analysis to perform more robust structural analysis and design calculations and then update the Revit model.
  • Navisworks Manage – Create federated models from over 50 file formats and run Clash Detection, Construction Simulation, Quantification, Design Review and Rendering.
  • Recap 360 Pro – Use reality capture laser scanning and photogrammetry to better understand existing conditions and verify as built conditions.
  • Rendering in A360 – Create quick and easy high quality renders and panoramas from Revit and Navisworks to better visualize your designs.
  • 3DS Max – For those high end visualizations to help with winning planning, buy in from stakeholders, or winning tender bids.
  • Online Storage – As we work in an ‘always connected’ world, being able to access models and drawings from the office or site is critical.

With the Autodesk Industry Collections for AEC, does my firm have everything we need?

Not included in the collection but important to aspects of structural projects are:

  • Advance Steel – 3D modeling software for steel detailing that helps teams accelerate design, steel detailing, steel fabrication, and steel construction.
  • Collaboration for Revit – Cloud service that works with Revit to enable multi-user co-authoring of BIM models for teams working from different offices.
  • BIM 360 Team – BIM 360 Team gives design teams a central location to communicate, view, markup and review 2D and 3D project design files from anywhere—simply using a web browser to a mobile device.
  • BIM 360 construction management software – A full suite of products like Docs, Glue, and Field built around the needs of a contractor, covering cloud enabled coordination, 3D layout, quality checks, safety programs, commissioning and production planning.
  • Point Layout – To get model coordinate information to total stations seamlessly from the design and review packages and bring back for as built analysis to speed up and reduce rework
